Boys and their Toys

When people ask me if I wish I had a girl, I usually say no.  It would have been great to have a girl, but I’m totally fine with my boys.  Occasionally, though, I do get a girl twinge.  Mainly it happens at Easter, when the cute adorable frilly dresses come out and I really, really want to buy one.  This year, Christmas is making me wish I had a girl.

My mom always gets the kids a chocolate advent calendar in December, and Stephen has been finding “guns” in it.  He opened up one of his chocolates.

“Cool!  Look, Mom, a gun!”

“What?  A gun!?  I don’t think they put guns in Advent calendars.”

“No, seriously.  It’s a gun!  I want a gun for Christmas, so it’s a gun.”

He hands me the chocolate.  I look at it.  Definitely a Christmas stocking…not a gun.  But with typical Stephen stubbornness, he relentlessly insisted it was a gun.

The next day: “Awesome!  Another gun!  With a bullet!”

“Stephen!  It’s not a gun!  They DO NOT put guns in chocolate Advent calendars!  Trust me on this one.”

Mom.  It’s a gun.  IT IS.  REALLY.  It even has a bullet!”

It’s a candycane with holly berries.  But the conversation went as these conversations with Stephen usually do:

“Honey, it’s a CANDYCANE!  With a BERRY!  They DON’T put guns in Advent calendars!!!”

“Gun!”

“Candycane!”

“Gun!”

“Candycane!”

“Gun!”

“Whatever, Stephen!  Think what you want!”

“Yay it’s a gun!”

Argh!

He gave me his Christmas wish list, I am calling it his “Christmas Arsenal List”:

Gun, sword, nerf gun, soldiers, navy ship, bow and arrows?

If I had a girl, maybe it would be princesses, barbies, dolls, puppies?  Soft cute nice things instead of MILITARY WEAPONS!?

So those of you with girls enjoy buying pink fluffy things and Barbies…we’ll supply the ammo!
