Occasionally I get the comment, “You look too young to have four kids!”
At first I replied proudly, “Thank you!” ah, yes, I look so young…like I’m in high school…I rock, I’m beautiful
But then I realized, wait a minute, I’m not even 30 yet and I have FOUR KIDS. Most of my patients who are my age are on their first kid, or maybe second, and here I am with a first grader who has three little brothers ex-utero! Maybe I look too young to have four kids because I AM young to have four kids! Maybe this “you look too young” thing is not a compliment at all, but a suspicion said with raised judgmental eyebrows!
So then I started saying, “I am! I am too young to have four kids! But the last two were twins, so technically one of them isn’t my fault! If not for crazy chance, we’d only have three kids before 30, which is less crazy…right? Right?”
I think I’ll go back to taking as a compliment…I DO look so young, my goodness. Hard to believe I’ll be 30 in 2 months.
But when people say, “You look too skinny to have four kids,” I always take it as a compliment (even when it’s said with a hint of bitterness). So feel free to say that to me whenever you’d like 🙂

Haha! You’re so funny! Of course, I don’t know these people, but it is probably mostly said as a compliment. And yes, you do look too skinny to have four kids (she says with a tinge of jealousy, even though she has no kids of her own). Lol!
