Eric and I spent the last week in Virginia visiting my sister…without Stephen!  It was the longest time we have ever been away from him.  We were planning to take him with us, but I bought 2 tickets thinking kids 2 and under don’t need a ticket.  Actually, it’s kids UNDER 2.  Of course, being your friendly airline system, they would not budge in any way to either prevent abandoning our 2 year old or pay $700 more for another ticket.  So abandon it was!  Stephen had a complicated itinerary for the week being shuttled among day care, my parents, my aunt/uncle, and one of my friends.  He was well taken care of and perfectly happy as far as we could tell.

We had a great time visiting the Jamestown settlement, colonial Willimsburg, and the USS Wisconsin.  We missed Stephen, but enjoyed how easy it is to travel without a 2 year old!    We also enjoyed visiting Eric’s sister and our nieces.

When Stephen and Julie and Rex picked us up at the airport, Stephen laughed and laughed.  “Mommy Daddy!”  He said happily.  When we got home, he wanted me to hold him a lot.  The only other indication that he had missed us was when he was playing.  He was playing with his alligator and told it, “We missed you, allo-gater,” and kissed it on the nose.

Last night we gave Stephen his bath, read him stories, and shared many family kisses.  We are happy to be back in crazy 2 year old world!
